Purazi is a farm record app for small-scale farmers in Zimbabwe. This page explains what information the app uses, why, who can see it, and how you can delete it.
Without an account
You can use Purazi without signing in. Your farm records are then kept only on your phone. Nothing is sent to us.
When you sign in
- Email address and PIN. Used to sign you in. We email you a one-time code the first time you sign in or if you forget your PIN, through our email service provider. Your PIN is checked by our server, which stores it only in scrambled (hashed) form and pauses sign-in after too many wrong PINs.
- Purazi ID. Every account gets a short ID (like PZ-7K3M9Q) that you can share so others can find you in the app without your phone number. Other farmers cannot look through the list of IDs; they can only find you if they type your ID.
- Phone number. Accounts made before email sign-in were made with a phone number, which stays on the account until you delete it. We do not send SMS codes any more. Your phone number is never shown to other farmers.
- Name, district and profile photo. Optional. Shown to other signed-in farmers next to your group messages, market listings, chats, calls and bookings.
- Farm records. Your crops, animals, fields, store, equipment, money records, budgets, reminders and payroll are backed up so you do not lose them if you change phones. Only you can see them.
- Farm photos and videos. Photos and videos you take of your crops and animals in the app, with the time they were taken, are backed up with your farm records. Videos include sound. Videos upload only on Wi-Fi. Only you can see them.
- Workers and people who owe you. If you record your workers or debts, the names, phone numbers and amounts you type are backed up with your farm records. Only you can see them. We never contact these people.
- Group chats. Messages, photos, replies, @mentions and reactions you send in a group are kept on our servers. Messages and photos can be read only by members of that group.
- Market listings. Listings you create, with their photo and price, can be seen by other signed-in Purazi users. Your phone number is not added to listings.
- Market chats. Messages and photos between a buyer and a seller are kept on our servers so both of you have a record of what was agreed. Only the two of you can read them. The Purazi team can read a message only if one of you reports it.
- Direct chats. You can chat with and call a farmer directly: someone in one of your groups, someone you have a market chat with, someone you found by Purazi ID, or a listed expert. These chats work like market chats: only the two of you can read them, and the team reads a message only if one of you reports it.
- Expert bookings. If you book an Agritex officer or a vet, we keep your request (what you need help with, the day and time that suit you, the place, and your name and district) and the expert's reply. The expert you booked sees it. If the expert does not use Purazi, the Purazi team sees it and may phone the expert to pass it on.
- Orders from farm suppliers. If you order seed, fertiliser, chemicals, feed or vet medicine from a company listed in Purazi, we keep your order (the products, how many, the prices, whether you collect or want it delivered, the delivery place you type, your note) and the company's reply. The company you order from sees the order with your name and district so it can get it ready; if it does not use Purazi, the Purazi team sees it and may phone the company to pass it on. You can also chat with and call a company; those chats work like direct chats. No money is paid through Purazi: you pay the company the way you agree with it.
- Calls. Calls in the market and in direct chats go over the internet through our call provider, LiveKit. The sound goes live from phone to phone through their servers and is not recorded by us or by LiveKit. We keep a short record of each call (who called whom, when, and whether it was answered, missed or how long it lasted), shown in your chat.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we keep your phone's notification address (a push token), the app language and your notification choices, so we can tell you about new messages, replies, mentions, reactions, calls and events. A short preview of the message is sent through Expo's push service and Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (or Apple's service on iPhone) to reach your phone. Notifications waiting to be sent are deleted after 7 days.
- Ask a question. Your question, any photo you attach and a short summary of your farm records are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service to write the answer. We keep a record of questions and answers to run the service and keep it safe. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this data is not used to train its models.
- Speaking your question. If you tap the microphone to speak a question, your phone's own speech service (on Android, usually Google's) turns your voice into text. Purazi only receives the text; we do not send or keep the recording.
- Farm check-up. When you ask for a check-up of your farm, a crop or a group of animals, a short summary of those records is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service to write it. We keep a record of each check-up to limit how many can be run each day. The same Anthropic terms apply.
- Starter guides. We count which guides are opened (with your account if you are signed in) to see which guides farmers find useful. Comments you send about a guide are read only by the Purazi team.
- Reports and blocks. If you report a message, post, listing, AI answer or check-up, we keep the report, and for AI answers the reported text, so our team can review it. We keep the list of people you block so they cannot message or call you.
Who helps us run Purazi
These service providers process data only to run Purazi, under their own security and privacy terms:
- Supabase stores accounts, backups, chats, photos and call records.
- LiveKit carries the sound of calls (not recorded).
- Anthropic writes answers to questions and farm check-ups.
- Expo and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Apple on iPhone) deliver notifications.
- Our email service provider sends sign-in codes.
All data is sent over encrypted connections.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data or show ads.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not record calls.
- We do not share your data with anyone except the service providers named above, and the expert or company you choose to book or order from.
Camera, microphone, photos and notifications
Purazi asks for the camera when you take a photo or video of a crop or animal, or add a photo to a listing, chat, group message, question or your profile. It asks for the microphone for calls, when you speak a question, and to record sound with a video. It asks to send notifications only after you tap to turn them on. Photos you do not choose are never read. You can refuse any of these and still use the rest of the app.
How long we keep data
We keep your account data until you delete your account or ask us to. Notifications waiting to be sent are deleted after 7 days.
Deleting your data
Open Purazi, tap the account button, then Delete my account. This deletes your account and everything listed above from our servers straight away: your profile and photo, backup, farm photos and videos, group messages and their photos, comments and reactions, market listings, market and direct chats (with their messages, photos and call records), expert bookings, orders from farm suppliers, notification settings, AI questions and check-ups. Records on your phone stay until you uninstall the app, or until a different account signs in on that phone, which clears them. See how to delete your account for other ways and what is kept.
Children
Purazi is made for adult farmers and is not directed at children under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
